Suella Braverman MP
My parents came to this country with nothing. Mum was recruited by the NHS as a girl of 18 and served as a nurse in the UK for 45 years. Dad came here as part of the Kenyan expulsion of Asians and found refuge here. He came here alone as a young man and often tells me how it was his British passport that gave him hope as he stepped off the plane at Heathrow Airport in February 1968. He started on the shop floor of a paint factory. Working hard, living modestly and prioritising education, my parents instilled in me a respect of Britain as a beacon of quality, fair play and opportunity.
Dr. Ezinne Amamasi
Dr. Ezinne Amamasi, is a NHS medical doctor in Psychiatry, a writer, public commentator and a champion for Mental Health and the vulnerable.
I have a passion for empowering people especially BAME women. My presence in politics has been a source of encouragement to other BAME women, especially Black women, who have said that they see me as a role model. I recall a time when I would walk into political meetings being the only Black woman. It would have been so easy for me to loose my voice and become invisible, but I did not. It is important to always remind yourself that you can make the difference. I am pleased to say that I have witnessed things begin to change and I am happy to share my experience in politics and offer practical advice to women who may be worried about speaking up. We need to see more women from minority groups and those living with disabilities in politics and I hope to see more changes in Parliament and in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet soon.
Dr Noshaba Khiljee
I truly believe that politicians can bring about positive change, but also act as inspirational figureheads to everyone in society. The Conservative Party has been at the forefront of such change in Government, exemplified by the diversity of the Cabinet in addition to having been led by two former female Prime Ministers. It is important to me as a Christian of Pakistani descent and a Conservative to be an example of what a woman can achieve not only in my community but also outside the UK. The Conservative Party provides a great platform that encourages more women from a variety of cultural backgrounds, such as myself, to become more active in the political arena and make a lasting contribution to society.
