Helen Grant, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Girls’ Education.
As a British African woman in politics, I am proud to have been involved in campaigns which give women, particularly those from diverse and underprivileged backgrounds, opportunities to achieve their potential.
Shazia Bashir
Cllr Shazia Bashir was born in Peterborough and she who was elected at the 2018 local election to serve as City Councillor for North Ward, Shazia put herself on the map by successfully winning this seat, as it had been held by Labour, for over 100 years.
Shazia is also a Trustee for Vivacity and she is the Chief Whip for the Conservative Group at The Peterborough City Council. In 2019, Shazia was also appointed as Cabinet Advisor for Children Services to support the Cabinet Member for Children’s Service and Education on matters such as social care for children, looked after children, children’s centres and early help services, which includes troubled families.
Shazia is also a long-standing women’s rights activist and loves fundraising for her chosen charities. She is very determined to become the first female Conservative MP with a Kashmiri background in 2024
Deanna Keene
I currently work within the private health sector as a compliance consultant outsourced to Public Health England and prior to this I travelled globally to over 150 countries worldwide as a professional singer/entertainer. This also involved entertaining numerous refugees in worn-torn countries such as Bosnia, Syria and Lebanon. I have also entertained the British Armed Forces and troops at UK and overseas army, air and navy bases.
