Dr Noshaba Khiljee
I am a Consultant in Renal and Acute Medicine. I am married with 2 young children and have become increasingly involved in politics over the last few years. I was the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the London constituency of Wanstead and Leyton in the 2019 General Election.
I truly believe that politicians can bring about positive change, but also act as inspirational figureheads to everyone in society. The Conservative Party has been at the forefront of such change in Government, exemplified by the diversity of the Cabinet in addition to having been led by two former female Prime Ministers. It is important to me as a Christian of Pakistani descent and a Conservative to be an example of what a woman can achieve not only in my community but also outside the UK. The Conservative Party provides a great platform that encourages more women from a variety of cultural backgrounds, such as myself, to become more active in the political arena and make a lasting contribution to society.
I am honoured and privileged to work in the National Health Service (NHS), particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Women constitute more than 75% of the NHS workforce and there is a significant under-representation of healthcare workers in National and Local Government. Since its inception in the 1940s, the NHS has been in safe hands with successive Conservative governments. With my involvement in politics I aspire to act as a bridge between Government and those working within the NHS to continually benefit this great institution that employs so many women. It is of huge importance to me to improve the lives of patients as well as give a voice to healthcare professionals, whose dedication and professionalism has proved so vital during the pandemic.
