Dr Anwara Ali MBE, MBBS, MRCGP

I am a full-time NHS GP, founder and Chairman of the British Health Alliance (BHA), Chairman of the EEHN Primary Care Network and a medical tutor, with over 20 years’ experience working on the front line fighting for better healthcare in one of the poorest boroughs in England and Wales. I have a long history of involvement in civic life which includes politics, the media, fundraising and volunteering for charitable organisations.

I am currently responsible for a multi-million pound public organisation and am the Chairman of two large health organisations in London. Together these organisations provide healthcare services to approximately 50,000 patients. I was instrumental in establishing the first pilot of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets a model which has now been adopted as national NHS policy. I also served as Tower Hamlets Cancer Screening lead and was the public face for a borough-wide poster campaign.

In the 2018 New Year’s Honours list I delighted to be awarded an MBE for services to Community Healthcare and was awarded a British Community Honours Award, that same year. In my former life, I was a Councillor and Cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and have served as Chairman of various public health boards.

I am an active volunteer and fundraiser for a number of charities. I have served as executive director of the Olympic Legacy List, board member of Canary Wharf Education Trust and volunteers for Save the Children. I have substantial business experience having been a non-executive director for two multinational companies one of which is headquartered in London’s Canary Wharf and I am a regular media commentator on Health and Politics for the BBC, Sky News, MATV, Channel S, ATN Bangla and various other radio and TV Channels.

In 2018, I stood as a Mayoral candidate in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and as an MP candidate in the Harrow West constituency, in 2019.
